Kasprowy Wierch Trail

A pleasant and easily accessible route to one of the most frequently visited peaks on the Polish side of the Tatra Mountains. The upper station of the PKL Kasprowy Wierch cable car and a large junction of hiking trails at the peak make Kasprowy Wierch not only a good destination for trips, but also an intermediate point during a hike to other peaks of the Western Tatras and the High Tatras. Trail color: green Walking time: 2 h 30 min (up) Highest point: Kasprowy Wierch 1987 m above sea level We start the trip in Kuźnice, where we follow the rocky road south, following the green and blue signs. After a while, the road splits into two branches - we choose the left one (green signs). Initially, the trail leads through a montane forest, along a comfortable, stone path. After 1 hour we reach Myślenice Turnie, where the intermediate station of the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch is located. From here we continue through the forest, which ends after about 30 minutes. The path becomes more and more steep and tiring, but until the very top it presents no difficulties. We take a convenient trail to the top of Kasprowy Wierch (1 hour 30 minutes). Kasprowy Wierch undoubtedly owes its popularity to the cable railway, whose carriages take tourists almost to the top every day. In the building of the upper cable car station there is a restaurant, a kiosk, a waiting room, toilets and a TOPR winter station. In winter, Kasprowy Wierch turns into an extremely popular ski resort. In addition to the cable car, there are two chairlifts to the summit - "Hala Gąsienicowa" and "Hala Goryczkowa". The chairlifts operate only in the winter season, when the ski slopes are open. In addition to all the amenities and attractions for tourists, it is worth visiting Kasprowy Wierch to admire the interesting panorama of the surrounding peaks - nearby Świnica is particularly interesting, but also many other peaks of the High and Western Tatras. You can descend to Kuźnice via the same route or follow the yellow signs through Hala Gąsienicowa (descent time 3 h 10 min). Being at the top of Kasprowy Wierch, it is certainly worth going to the nearby Beskid Mountains. Reaching this peak along the red trail takes about 20 minutes, it is a walking distance, and the views are stunning, as you can see from here, among others: Zielony Staw Gąsienicowy. It is also worth mentioning that it is the most accessible two-thousander in the Polish Tatra Mountains. A good idea to extend the trip to Kasprowy Wierch is to follow the red trail to the Liliowe Pass (30 minutes) and then follow the green signs to Kuźnice directly from the pass, through Hala Gąsienicowa (descent time 3 hours). The trail is typical for the Western Tatras, presenting no technical difficulties. Another option is to go from Kasprowy Wierch to the peak of Świnica (2 h 10 min). However, it should be remembered that the trail to Świnica is much more demanding both physically and technically. There is a considerable difference in height to be overcome, and a significant part of the approach to the top is secured with chains. There is significant exposure in some places. People who want to go from Kasprowy Wierch to Świnica can consider taking the cable car to the top, which will save a lot of energy. From Kasprowy Wierch you can also go in the opposite direction towards Czerwone Wierchy. A description of the route leading along the ridge of Suche Czuby can be found here.
